No-Gi North South Choke Series - PC
Well, its been a while. I think I'm going to start using this blog to track the classes and what I've learned for the day.
We'll start with last Thursday. I went for a No-Gi class at Paul's. We covered a few attacks from knee on belly.
The first thing I noticed was that when he got into position, he used both hands on the far bicep/shoulder to keep the opponent from turning into you. If he tried and extended his neck that was the opportunity you were looking for. From there, you punch your top hand through and twist your hips so you start the Poppa choke (N/S guillotine). A good point was to use the other hand to stay posted on the bicep while you switch your hips. Your lat/rib cage keeps the face turned as you sprawl backward and towards the head. This presses the other side of the neck into your bicep and opens the near side for more pressure (my analysis of the situation.... seemed to work for me).
The next technique was a play off that where the guy posts on your chin to counter. If he's pushing with the hand on the side your head, you have to use your free hand to push it across and then lower your head to their shoulder. If they use the other hand, they are actually helping you into that position.
Thirdly, if the guy is posting on your hip before you even start the Poppa choke, you use your knee (closest to his head) and come inside to out and pin the arm on the ground. Circle the head, slide your knee and the pin the other arm. From there, he's screwed. Lock your hand and then go Marcelo-tine on him (bring your forearm over his shoulder). This should be like hanging him from mount.
